Today, I join millions of Americans in celebrating the end of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that has denied over 63 million preborn children their most fundamental right: life. With today’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, states have regained the ability to protect preborn children and their mothers.
Here in Florida, abortions are already banned at 15 weeks, but because of this recent legislation there will only be more women who need the help of crisis pregnancy centers. Although Florida already has this protection in place, there are states such as my home state- Illinois- that is on the opposite side of the spectrum. Illinois has some of the least restrictions on abortion, and since now states have the ability to protect life, we need to encourage even states with radically pro-abortion laws, such as Illinois, to protect life. In states such as Florida, this is the time for the Pro-Life Movement to step up and prove that we can provide the care and support these women considering abortion need.
I will continue to work to educate my generation, and generations coming afterwards, on the value and sanctity of life, and we will continue to do all we can to protect and support crisis pregnancy centers. We will truly be able to call ourselves the “Pro-Life Generation” and do our part to restore a culture of life to America.
The end of Roe v. Wade is an enormous victory for the United States: a victory that our fathers and grandfathers have been working towards for fifty years, and a victory that my generation will take and run with, so that we eventually make it so that abortion is not only illegal, but unthinkable.
