The Georgia Runoff: Why Politics and Pro-Life Go Together

We are less than 24 days away from Christmas: The holiday parties, Christmas cooking, baking, and trips home to see family are in full swing.

Not only is today a beautiful day here in the Tampa Bay area, it's a very important day just a few hours north of me. Georgia is holding the very important runoff election- the Senate race between pro-abortion Democrat incumbent Raphael Warnock and Republican challenger Herschel Walker. This race could mean the difference between life and death to literally millions of preborn babies across America.

If Raphael Warnock wins re-election, the U.S. Senate could vote to end the filibuster and pass the deadly “Women’s Health Protection Act” or other similar legislation. Despite its benign, almost positive name, the so-called “Women’s Health Protection Act” would eradicate EVERY pro-life law in the nation and legalize abortion for any reason until birth across America. Let's all pray very hard for an outcome tonight that protects life!

On that same note, If any of you know me for my social media, you know that I post a lot about the Pro-Life Movement. In fact, that is basically my whole platform: I post about different pro-life organizations and individuals I admire, events that are happening, and new ideas and ways to help women in crisis.

Every time I post about something political- such as the runoff election-  without fail I get hate comments- and comments of confusion in my DMs.

“I thought you were pro-life, not political!”

“I follow you for your pro-life content, I don’t want to hear about politics.”

“I agree that abortion is murder… but let’s keep the government out of this.”

To all of these I would respond: of course I am pro-life, and of course that is what is most important to me, but in order to build a true culture of life we must elect political officials who will protect life. In order to change our society we must change hearts and minds but we also must change legislation.

Please join me in praying that the person who wins the Georgia runoff election will protect and defend life- not pass legislation with the purpose to destroy it.

As I began with, the holiday season is approaching. I love Christmas as much as the next person, but instead of closing our laptops and putting our work in the Pro-Life Movement until after the holiday season is over, let’s use this time to more than ever further our message and bring a culture of joy, hope, and peace to our broken world during the time that message needs to be spread most.

Perhaps you can lead Christmas caroling outside an abortion clinic- spread awareness to the women going inside and the people passing on the streets that Christmas is about more than presents and family time- it’s about how the Savior of the world came into the world through an unplanned pregnancy.

Maybe shop from a pro-life company for Christmas presents. When your extended family asks where you got their gifts, tell them a little bit about what this company supports and why you, in turn, want to support them.

We all buy so much from Amazon- support Illinois Right to Life in this process through Amazon Smile and give back to our efforts to help women and children in children in Chicago and beyond.

Whatever way you decide to spread a culture of life this holiday season, don’t decide to do nothing. This is the time of year to spread joy, love, hope, and peace and the Pro-Life Movement embodies all of these!
